Retractable fly screens are the preferred choice when appearance is paramount. The entire mechanism — spring barrel, mesh roll, and guide channels — sits within a powder-coated aluminium cassette that is just 23mm wide. When the screen is retracted, all you see is a slim vertical profile at the side of the window or door frame. Pull the handle across and the screen deploys smoothly; release it and the spring returns it silently to the cassette. There are no fixed panels, no bulky frames, and no visual impact on the glazing when the screen is not in use.
This makes retractable screens the ideal solution for Surrey properties where aesthetics are protected by planning conditions. Surrey is home to a significant number of listed buildings and conservation areas — including large parts of Guildford town centre, the historic core of Reigate, Dorking's heritage streets, and the villages of Shere, Abinger Hammer, and Tilford. In conservation areas, any external alteration that materially changes the appearance of a property can require permitted development consent. The 23mm cassette profile is so slim that it typically does not constitute a material change and therefore does not require planning permission — though we always recommend checking with your local authority before installation.
Our retractable screens are available for both windows and single doors. For windows, the cassette sits vertically at one side of the frame and the mesh pulls horizontally across the opening. For doors, the cassette can be positioned at either side, and the screen pulls across like a room divider, latching magnetically when fully extended. Available mesh colours include white, black, grey, bronze, and charcoal — all UV-stabilised to resist fading in direct Surrey sunlight. Frame and cassette colours are matched to your existing paintwork or powder-coated to any RAL specification.

The cassette profile is just 23mm wide — narrower than a standard door stop. It barely registers visually, even on slender window frames.
Constant-tension spring mechanism retracts the screen smoothly and silently. No bungee cords, no ratchets — just a clean, controlled return every time.
Available for casement, sash, and tilt-and-turn windows, plus single hinged and stable doors. One system, multiple applications across your property.
Used extensively on Surrey's listed buildings and conservation area properties. The minimal profile typically avoids the need for planning consent — we advise case by case.
White, black, grey, bronze, and charcoal mesh options — UV-stabilised to maintain colour through years of Surrey sun exposure.
In most cases the 23mm cassette does not require a planning application — even in conservation areas. We assess each installation and confirm before works begin.
We install retractable fly screens throughout Surrey's towns and villages — Guildford, Reigate, Dorking, Godalming, Farnham, Haslemere, Woking, Epsom, Leatherhead, Weybridge, and all surrounding conservation areas.
