About Our Service
Farnham is one of Surrey's most architecturally distinctive towns — a Georgian market town on the Surrey-Hampshire border whose streets are lined with fine townhouses, Victorian terraces, and converted coaching inns. Away from the centre, the character shifts to rural farmhouses and cottages in Wrecclesham, Runfold, and Rowledge, set within open countryside where the boundary between house and garden is especially porous in summer. The town's architecture presents particular challenges for fly screens: standard fixed frames can look out of place on Georgian sash windows or listed buildings. We have extensive experience fitting screens sensitively on period properties, choosing profiles and colours that respect the original character of the building.
Farnham's location between the River Wey to the north and Alice Holt Forest to the south creates conditions in which insect pressure is significantly higher than in more urban parts of Surrey. The damp meadows along the river corridors produce large numbers of midges and mosquitoes from June onwards, while woodland-edge properties in Rowledge and Wrecclesham experience sustained pressure from moths and flying beetles throughout the summer evenings. For homeowners who want to leave windows and doors open at night — or simply during the day for ventilation — a fly screen is the most effective and permanent solution available.
Retractable fly screens are especially popular in Farnham given the number of listed buildings and properties within conservation areas. Our retractable cassette systems mount discreetly to the window or door frame with minimal fixings, and the screen itself rolls away completely out of sight when not deployed — making them almost invisible and fully acceptable for properties where planning constraints limit what can be fitted externally. For rural farmhouses in Runfold and Rowledge with large original doors and wide window openings, we manufacture everything to order, ensuring every screen fits as if it were always part of the building.
